The JK Board of School Education (BOSE) has registered unfair means cases against 115 students who appeared in annual 2015 regular 10th class examination held in November this year.
Of the total, maximum cases include possession of chits while 19 are ‘smuggling’ cases and three cases of impersonation.
After the culmination of 10th annual examination, BOSE authorities convened a meeting regarding the cases and have also announced the punishment against erring students for resorting to unfair means in the exams.
“We convened a meeting regarding the issue and took decisions as per the regulations of the department,” said M A Jaloo, Joint Secretary Secrecy, JK BOSE.
He said the meeting was also attended by the officials of the education department besides other experts. “We had published a public notice regarding the issue and invited students before announcing our decisions,” he said.
As per the regulations, he said, BOSE can announce more than three years disqualification against the students involved in possession case while as one year punishment is announced against the students who resort to ‘smuggling’ during the conduct of exams.
“But we make mild punishment while keeping in consideration the career of students. Instead of five or three years punishment we ban them for two years only,” Jaloo said.
He however said the number of unfair means cases registered was comparatively less than that of 2014 annual exams. “Of these 115 cases, two-three cases remained unresolved for which BOSE will take its decision in coming times.”
He said the BOSE was also reviewing the number of unfair means cases received during the 12th regular exams. “The list has not been finalized and it will take us a week’s time to complete the process,” Joint Secretary Secrecy said.
The practice of unfair means continues in exam centres across valley and this time the issue was in limelight after the pictures of copying got viral on social networking sites.
During annual 2014 regular 10th class exams, BOSE had disqualified 13 students for one year while as one student was disqualified for two years after resorting to unfair means in exams.
Also the order for cancellation of subject was issues against 138 students during the exams while as 11 cases remained unresolved and six students faced cancellation of exams during the 2014 regular 10th class exams.
